Urethral Arterial Bleeding from an Iatrogenic Pseudoaneurysm due to Catheterization

چکیده
A 41-year-old man underwent surgery for treatment of an intervertebral disk hernia and received urethral catheterization at another hospital. After insertion of the catheter, intermittent urethral bleeding occurred. He was brought to our hospital by ambulance because of massive urethral bleeding and urethral pain on the day after the operation. Laboratory tests showed a decrease of hemoglobin, and contrast computed tomography revealed intense enhancement of part of the urethra that resembled an aneurysm. Urethroscopy showed a pseudoaneurysm in the bulbar urethra and the arterial bleeding was stopped by transurethral coagulation. *Corresponding author: Hideo Yuki M.D, Department of Urology, Dokkyo Medical University, 880 Kitakobayashi Mibu, Tochigi, 321-0293, Japan, Tel: 81282-87-2162; Fax: 81-282-86-7533; E-mail: [email protected] Received December 22, 2013; Accepted December 29, 2013; Published December 31, 2013 Citation: Yuki H, Fuse M, Masuda A, Betsunoh H, Abe H, et al. Iatrogenic Superficial External Pudendal Artery Pseudoaneurysm: Treatment with Doppler US-Guided Compression
Pseudoaneurysms rarely occur as a serious complication following incomplete hemostasis of an arterial puncture site. As a result of the increase in diagnostic and therapeutic angiography, the frequency of iatrogenic pseudoaneurysm has increased as well. Iatrogenic pseudoaneurysms associated with angiographic catheterization occur most commonly in the common femoral artery. Here we report a case...
متن کاملPreventing Traumatic Urinary Catheter Insertion Through a Computerized Ordering System: Quasi-experimental Study From a Tertiary Academic Center
Background: Iatrogenic urethral injury is a well-known risk of urinary catheter insertion. Associated morbidities include stricture formation, catheter associated infection, risk for instrumentation, and extended length of stay. Yet, insufficient attention is paid to its prevention. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a computerized...
متن کاملLife-threatening Rupture of a Femoral Pseudoaneurysm after Cardiac Catheterization
A pseudoaneurysm refers to a defect in the arterial wall, allowing communication of arterial blood with the adjacent extra-luminal space. Pseudoaneurysms result from traumatic arterial injury. With the increasing utilization of percutaneous arterial interventions, iatrogenic arterial injury has become the predominant cause of pseudoaneurysm formation. Rupture of the pseudoaneurysm comprises a v...

We report the case of a 79-year-old patient who presented with a femoral iatrogenic pseudoaneurysm of delayed and unusual onset with immediately life-threatening massive bleeding. Ultrasound is the method of choice for the diagnosis of pseudo aneurysm. If there is not spontaneous closure, ultrasound-guided compression repair, minimally invasive percutaneous treatments, and surgical repair are t...

Background: Renal vascular injuries mostly result from interventional urologic procedures such as percutaneous biopsy and nephrostomy. Serious hemorrhagic complications associated with percutaneous urologic procedures occur in 2.3-15% of the patients endangering patients' life. Conventional surgical treatment including partial and total nephrectomy carries great morbidity and results in remarka...
